The Experienced Rider Course for Street Riders

Who attends the ERC?
The Experienced RiderCourse (ERC) is designed for a variety of motorcycle riders including experienced riders who want to tune-up their motorcycle skills. It also appeals to those who completed a Basic RiderCourse, purchased a motorcycle, and now want to practice their skills on their own motorcycle. Others take the course to increase their skill level to take full advantage of the improvements in motorcycle technology.

Do I need to bring a motorcycle to the ERC?
Yes, in the Experienced RiderCourse, you ride your own street-legal motorcycle. Your motorcycle must be safe to ride as determined by a pre-ride T-CLOCK inspection. There is no minimum or maximum motorcyle size requirement. CCMT will provide a copy of the T-CLOCK inspection form to you in your enrollment confirmation packet.

What are the ERC requirements?
You must have a valid motorcycle license or endorsement (M1), wear your own DOT-approved 3/4 or full-face helmet (no 1/2 helmets), wear proper riding gear, and provide your own street-ready motorcycle with valid proof of motorcycle insurance and a valid motorcycle registration card. There is no minimum riding experience required.

What do I need to wear?
A long sleeve shirt and/or jacket (all shirts must cover the midriff.) Long non-flare denim pants or material of equivalent durability (no sweat pants or loose fitting pants.) Leather gloves that cover the fingers and wrist (no skin showing.) Leather or cordura shoes or boots with sturdy soles, and tops that are high enough to completely cover the ankle (no spike heels or cloth shoes.) Glasses or sunglasses.

Am I required to take the ERC?
Some motorcycle insurance companies ask riders to regularly take a safety course to receive their insurance discounts.

Where is the ERC held?
The BRC is held at both of our riding range training facilities in Santa Maria and Paso Robles. The course is conducted entirely on a paved area away from street traffic. In Santa Maria the riding range is held at the Santa Maria Fairpark at 937 S. Thornburg St., Santa Maria, CA 93454. In Paso Robles the riding range is held at the California Mid-State Fair at the corner of 24th St. & Riverside Ave., Paso Robles, CA 93446.

How long is the ERC?
The ERC is a 5 hour one-day course with all on-motorcyle instruction and classroom-type discussions occurring on the riding range.

When is the ERC held?
Classes are held at our training facilities in Santa Maria and Paso Robles. Please call (805) 226-8015 for a dates and time. Pre-registration is recommended.

Can I just go to the class?
While we do accept walk-ins, it is on a space available basis only. Since most classes fill several weeks in advance, we recommend that you call us at (805) 226-8015 prior to the class to check on availability. Pre-registration is recommended so you can have a guaranteed space in the class.

What is taught in the ERC?
The ERC curriculum consists of 9 on-motorcycle exercises. The ERC is a group class with a maximum of 12 students and two instructors. Range exercises include: control at low speed, controls skills practice, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgment, cornering finesse, stopping quickly in a curve, hazard avoidance: swerving and stopping quickly, and multiple curves.

How do I pass the ERC?
A rider must successfully achieve the objectives of Exercise 1, Control at Low Speed, and must successfully achieve the objective of subsequent exercises, in order to continue. Students who complete all exercises will pass the course and receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) completion card. There is no knowledge test or end-of-course skills test. The ERC has no student handbook.

What about discounts & rebates?
Dealers, manufacturers, and some rider clubs offer incentive programs to encourage you to take a RiderCourse. The Graduation Card you receive after completing the courses is proof of your achievement. Some rebate programs require an additional proof of payment receipt. If you need one, please contact our office at (805) 226-8015. Many insurance companies offer discounts to RiderCourse graduates. In some cases, the savings can be as much as the course tuition itself. Check with your insurance agent. The card you receive after completing the course is proof of your graduation.

How much does the ERC cost?
The ERC course fee is $100.00 for all ages. If you are a minor, under age 18, your parent or legal guardian must sign the required Waiver Form.
